Fantasy Impact of Recent CBS Mock Draft

I decided to take the latest 1st round mock draft from CBS Sports found here  and evaluate the fantasy impact that these landing spots will have on each player.

At number 1 overall, Cleveland takes DeShone Kizer, QB, Norte Dame. For me, this landing spot paired with where the other QBs fell in this mock, cements Kizer as the number one fantasy QB. There is no competition in Cleveland at the QB position and Kizer would most likely start out of the gate.

With the next pick, the San Francisco 49ers took DeShaun Watson. I like Watson. I have him as my number one QB prospect. However, I think this landing spot hurts his initial value. I could potentially see him dropping to the third ranked rookie QB for fantasy based solely on the landing spot. The 49ers are probably have the least talented players on the offensive in the entire NFL. It may take a couple years to get Watson the firepower he needs to succeed and quite honestly, is used to at Clemson.

The Chicago Bears are picking 4th in this mock and took Mich Trubisky, QB, North Carolina. I think that this is an interesting pick especially with Brad Kaaya still available. Anyways, this would catapult Trubisky to QB #2. He has come on strong this season which is very similar to Carson Wentz from last season. Being taken this early in the draft will cause fantasy owners to draw the connection to Carson Wentz which isn't a bad thing at all.

There is a 10 pick gap until the next offensive skilled player is drafted. The New York Giants took Leonard Fournette. This puts Fournette at the top of the RB rankings and probably makes him the sure number one overall pick in fantasy leagues. It's a great landing spot in a great offense where he would start immediately.

The Colts took Dalvin Cook with the next pick. Cook is definitely a fit for this Colts offense. He's a much better fit for the Colts than if these last two picks were flipped. This is a landing spot that just makes too much sense and because of that I wouldn't fault anyone for taking Cook number one overall.

Brad Kaaya at 16th overall to Arizona. This is a pretty good QB class so Arizona taking a QB in the first round makes sense. We have probably seen the beginning of the end for Carson Palmer. Kaaya wouldn't play immediately but long term would probably have the most upside of all the QBs in this draft.

The first WR was taken at 17. Juju Smith-Schuster ended up being taken by the Tennessee Titans. This would be horrible for JuJu. His value would surely take a hit during or right after the draft if this happened. Without having a full mock it is kind of hard to tell how far he would fall. This is a horrible spot for a USC WR that is already going to have question marks.

With the next pick Green Bay took OJ Howard, TE, Alabama. Howard was being mocked to Green Bay last year, had he declared. Green Bay still needs to address the TE position and Howard would fill that hole in a big way. He's probably the number one TE in the class but this landing spot makes him the no doubt TE #1.

This is the sixth consecutive pick of an offensive skilled player, Kansas City takes Mike Williams, WR, Clemson, 19th overall. This isn't the best spot for Mike Williams but it's definitely not the worst. This would make Williams the #1 WR and most likely the 3rd overall pick.

The last skilled position player taken in the first round was Christian McCaffrey by the New England Patriots. This landing spot is both a blessing and a curse. It's a really good landing spots in terms of creativity and versatility. However, being a running back in New England is no sure thing.

I definitely think some things are going to shake out differently during the draft. Not to mention a couple prospects will have good pro days and combines to boost their draft stock. Out of this mock Dalvin Cook and Oj Howard have the best landing spots by far and I would really like to see a different landing spot for JuJu Smith-Schuster.
