Devy 101

Definition:  A devy league is a unique form of a dynasty league in which owners are allowed to draft and roster developmental players (“devys"). These developmental players are most often college players, although some leagues even make current high school players available to be drafted.

Side Effects:  The major concern that most people have with Devy is that it alters the value of their rookie picks. For example, if someone has rookie pick 1.01 this offseason the easy pick is Zeke Elliot but in a Devy league this would not be the case  Elliot would have been drafted in a previous years Devy draft. Therefore, the 1.01 actually now has the value of 1.02 and some instances the 1.01 might only be worth a mid-first round pick.

The good news is there is always someone who unexpectedly breaks out  or slips through the cracks and becomes available in the rookie draft. Most recently this happened with Kevin White. The trick then becomes how do you balance the value of Devy picks and rookie picks in your league and this is the best part of Devy because every league is going to have a different value. If this is too much of a headache, I would recommend a one round Devy draft.

Devy Rules: There are really no specific Devy rules. Every Devy league seems to operate in a different manner. Whether that be tracking the players through Google Docs or creating custom player slots in MFL. Some leagues put a limit on how many Devy players you can own some don't. Finding a good Devy league is all about finding the right setup to allow you to grow and succeed as a dynasty fantasy football owner.
